Calling business leaders and academics for a Responsible Leadership

As the world needs a more responsible leader, the Globally Responsible Leaders Initiative from Brussels Belgium was co-founded with the support of the United Nations Global Compact and the European Foundation for management Development. Its mission is to be a bridge in developing the next generation of globally responsible leaders. By doing this mission, the group challenges the issues of the company for the 21st Century, as well as the mission of business schools and learning institutions and the process for cultural change in different organizations.

According to Bill Gates, Capitalism improves the lives of many people. However, as other people’s lives improves, it left billions more lives worsen. He said further that the world needs a more creative capitalism and must attempt to stretch the market forces in order for more companies to benefit in doing work that makes more people’s lives better.

In order to achieve the better life that we desire, there is a need for this creative capitalism the Bill Gates is claiming, however, a more responsible capitalism and strong leadership that can able to make that responsibility happen. In response to this, business leaders and academics are called to do certain action by GRLI with their three main areas of focus that includes:

Re-visiting the raison d’etre of the firm
Integrating leadership and ethics
Making corporate statesmanship

GRLI strongly believes that achieving this focus can be made possibly if business schools will focus on educating the whole person as entrepreneurs, leaders and corporate diplomats. As we all know, leadership is an art of motivating, communicating, empowering and convincing people to a new vision of sustainable development, focusing on this part of learning will dramatically help achieve the aim of having responsible leaders.

As GRLI realized the urgency with which a falling system needs to be adapted to human needs in a globalized economy, the will enhance the change factors that will help them implement a more sustainable development model. Another way to implement is that the groups will embed the appropriate values and behaviors in their strategies and management practices. Another way is their aim to develop pedagogies and curricula, which enables the development of a globally responsible leadership, and lastly the groups will exchange innovations, good practices and cases in business and education, and will share it with their partners and the public through the development of learning platforms for critical and constructive dialogue.

The GRLI or Globally Responsible Leaders Initiative’s call for action has the goal of re-enforcing the strengths of our entrepreneurial system while correcting its defects and the financial excesses of the system. The group is striving to achieve this aim through enhancing responsibility at all levels.

To make this call come true, a new way of education managers and leaders and the next generation of globally responsible leaders will play a big and important role.
